El "Yunque" National Forest is located in Puerto Rico and is the only tropical rainforest in the National Forest System in the United States. It is named in honor of the Indian Yuquiyu and is one of the wettest places in the world known. It is also a tourist attraction, which is much visited and admired and protected by the citizens of the island. El Yunque rainforest is a semitropical cool temperatures, located in the Sierra de Luquillo in eastern Puerto Rico.
The vegetation of El Yunque is very varied, exotic and indigenous. It houses some 240 species of trees, and is actually 4 kinds of different woods, each determined by its altitude. El Toro, the highest peak in the forest with 3532 feet, is only about a dwarf unusual vegetation that hangs from his sides.Also El Yunque has a large variety of unique plants of its kind to own more than 20 types of orchids as well different kinds of fluorescent fungi.
It is a unique place for many species of aquatic animals like fish and shrimp, as the Puerto Rican Boa reptiles, amphibians and many birds, among which are endangered birds such as the Puerto Rican parrot. Naturalists have a better idea of the quantity and location of the nests of our Puerto Rican parrot-endangered-but jealously guard this information. Thirteen species of coqui have been reported in the forest. The anvil is visited by many tourists and locals daily.

Access to the forest from 7:30am. to 5:00pm. (weekends until 6:00pm.)

- Bring a change of cloth,towel and wear hiking shoes or sneakers. No sandals
- Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
- Only the parents will know if their children have the stamina for this type of tour.
- Not recommended for travelers with a hart condition.
- Do not leave the trails, to avoid becoming lost.
